Canadian shipbuilder Chantier Davie has welcomed Vard and Serco as its newest partners in the National Icebreaker Centre's (NIC) polar icebreaker programme.
Among other things, the project seeks to introduce a new class of polar and ice-capable research ships to replace the Canadian Coast Guard's existing fleet of icebreakers, some of which are already more than 40 years old.
In addition to Vard and Serco, Davie will select new partners to provide propulsion, steel, and other critical systems for the programme.
