US Small Shipyard Grant Program recipients revealed

The US Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration has awarded more than US$20 million to a further 27 shipyards as a part of its Small Shipyard Grant Program.

The Small Shipyard Grant Program, "aids small shipyards to make capital improvements and train workers to remain competitive in the global marketplace".

It was announced earlier this month that Bay Shipbuilding and Fraser Shipyards in Wisconsin were awarded nearly US$2 million as part of the program.

Master Boat Builders was awarded US$1,332,607 to support the purchase of a 182-tonne capacity crawler, 55-tonne mobile crane and a 30-tonne rough terrain crane.

James Marine was awarded US$1,125,000 to support the purchase of an 80-tonne rough terrain crane.

Jarrett Bay Boatworks was awarded US$1,000,000 to support the purchase of a 300-tonne marine travelift.

Bayonne Drydock and Repair Corp was awarded US$1,081,950 in support of the purchase of a CNC plasma table, brake press, plate roll, welding machines, iron worker, graving dock upgrades and hydroblast equipment.

Gulf Copper Dry Dock and Rig Repair was awarded US$1,296,820 to support the construction of a 4,500-tonne dry dock.

Glendale Boat Works was awarded US$1,064,654 to support the purchase of a 400-tonne marine travelift.

Ice Floe was awarded US$1,312,500 to support the purchase of a 250-tonne lattice boom crawler crane.

A further 20 shipyards were awarded grants ranging from US$67,511 to $768,500.
