Icelandic builder Rafnar has been awarded a contract for the construction of a new rigid inflatable boat (RIB) for Björgunarsveitin Ársæll, a search and rescue (SAR) organisation that serves the cities of Reykjavik and Seltjarnanes.
The 11-metre boat will be fitted with a FLIR camera, a side-scan sonar, and a drone control interface that will enable the crew to view real-time, over-the-horizon video images using unmanned aerial vehicles.
The RIB is the fourth in a series that Rafnar will build for the same operator. It will be deployed in the waters off Iceland's southwestern coast.
