Greek boat builder Barracuda recently unveiled a new rigid inflatable boat (RIB) designed to operate as an unmanned surface vehicle (USV).
The 7.65-metre RIB has an FRP hull and two Mercury outboard engines that deliver high cruising speeds of up to 29 knots and a sprint speed of 55 knots. Operation is possible even under sea state nine conditions.
The RIB may be optionally manned by two operators. Its missions will include insertion and extraction of special operations forces and search and rescue.
Barracuda said that the design and construction of the craft are part of a privately-funded project.
