Pella Shipyard in Russia's Leningrad region has launched the second Project 11982 hydrographic research ship.
Built for the Russian Federation Navy, the 63.8-metre-long ship Ilmen has a 10.8-metre beam and a 3.8-metre draught.
Accommodating a crew of 16 for a 20-member expedition, the KM class Ice 2 vessel has a range of 1,600 kilometres, an endurance of 20 days and a speed of 12 knots.
The ship is intended to conduct research and oceanographic survey, test special equipment and participate in salvage operations.
