Knud E. Hansen, in collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark's National Institute of Aquatic Resources (DTU Aqua), has completed the comprehensive design study for a new 65-metre multi-disciplinary marine research vessel destined to replace the aging Dana IV.
The new vessel is designed and optimised for fish stock assessment; hydro-acoustic studies; and biological, chemical, and physical oceanography based on DTU Aqua's expected service profile in 2023.
It will have accommodations for 14 crew and up to 20 researchers, laboratories, trawl gear, cranes, hydro-acoustic transducers, and assorted deck equipment to support multi-disciplinary research operations.
The DNV GL-classed vessel will have reduced underwater radiated noise (URN) and will be capable of year-round operation in the North Sea and the Baltics.
Construction is expected to stay within a DKK 340 million (US$51 million) budget.
