Huangpu Wenchong launches new deep-sea research ship

Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding launched a new deep-sea research vessel into the water on Saturday, July 18.

The vessel, which was christened Shiyan 6 ("Experiment 6") just prior to launching, will have an LOA of 90.6 metres, a displacement of 3,500 tonnes, and a range of 12,000 nautical miles.

Shiyan 6 is the first in a series of vessels being built for the Chinese Academy of Sciences for research duties in the South China Sea.
