The Port of Los Angeles recently awarded Seattle-based builder Vigor a contract to build two aluminium pilot boats.
Each pilot boat will have an LOA of 16.86 metres, a beam of five metres, accommodation for two crew and eight pilots, and twin Caterpillar C18 598kW engines that will deliver a maximum speed of 27 knots.
The Camarc-designed boats will also each feature a twin chine heavy weather hull form, multiple heavy fender systems, and an articulated rescue davit to provide man overboard recovery.
Vigor expects to complete construction of the boats by the late summer of 2020.
