Corporazione Piloti Estuario Veneto based in Venice recently took delivery of a new fast monohull pilot boat built and designed by Cantiere Nautico Portegrandi.

The new vessel belongs to a series that has been developed further as a heavy duty variant of an earlier class of Portegrandi workboats that are optimised for both civil and military applications.

Gilberto Crosera of Portegrandi said the new workboat series retains the seakeeping ability of the earlier vessel range on which it was based, thanks to the deep V hull designed by Renato Sonny Levi. The design ensures exceptional manoeuvrability and smoother sailing even at high operating speeds. The rugged construction is the result of the use of high-performance resins and state-of-the-art, materials and techniques such as PVC foam sandwich used for the deck and superstructure.

The spacious and comfortable pilothouse can be fitted out to the operator's specification and requirements, added Crosera.

The new pilot boat, that was built in FRP and designed in compliance to RINA High speed craft rules, has an LOA of 9.8 metres and a beam of 2.75 metres. The engine fitted is a six-cylinder FPT Industrial N67-550 diesel that delivers a maximum speed in excess of 30 knots. The N67 of the new pilot boat also features the recently introduced FPT Industrial remote electronic control.
