GBA Ships, a charitable organisation headquartered in Germany, has acquired a luxury private charter vessel formerly operated by Genting Hong Kong through its Star Cruises brand.

The 1988-built The Taipan will soon commence undergoing conversion work at an unnamed Asian shipyard with completion scheduled for 2023. The modifications will include rearranging of the accommodation spaces, overhauling of the machinery, and installation of a wastewater system and a new bookshop.

The ship will sail under the name Doulos Hope once in service with GBA Ships. It will be used by the organisation in performing missionary outreach work in various countries.
