On having your cake and eating it too!

Work Boat World, Ships and Shipping, Ausmarine editorial – July 2008

Regular readers of and advertisers in Baird publications will know how generous we are. We are about to become even more so.

From July 1, or a little earlier, we will be adding a very important new feature to our fast developing www.baird-online.com website. In addition to the already established and extensive NEWS, GEAR, DIRECTORIES, BLOGS, MARKETPLACE, and REVIEWS, we will be offering our MAGAZINE ARCHIVE.

This will involve publishing all three of our magazines WORK BOAT WORLD, SHIPS AND SHIPPING and AUSMARINE online as well as in the traditional printed format. So as not to devalue the subscriptions of our faithful and supportive subscribers, the online copies will appear three months late. That is, the April issue of the magazines will appear online on July 1 and so on. Access to the online version will be free of charge as, indeed, is all the content of baird-online.com.

Online publications of our magazines will, we are certain, add substantially to the value we offer both subscribers and advertisers. Starting with the April 2008 issue, all our magazines will be properly archived. That involves extensive cross-indexing making research of our back copies substantially easier. You can also read them when you are travelling or even if you have lost your copy.

For advertisers, there are even more benefits. At no extra cost, you effectively get two bites of the cake. You can both keep your cake and eat it! You pay only for your printed advertisement. For the same money you get a permanent online presence accessible by a substantially larger audience.

But wait, there's more! Still for the same cost as your print advertisement, your advertisement in the online version is automatically hyperlinked to your website. Further, anywhere your website address is mentioned in the magazine text such as in vessel reviews or gear articles, it will also be automatically hyperlinked to your website.

We have thought, planned and worked long and hard and, incidentally, invested a lot of money in baird-online. It is gratifying and encouraging to note the rapidly increasing use being made of the site. By every measure, unique visits, page views and hits, you are certainly accessing it much more every month.

We are, as you can see, very excited about this new development. It adds enormously to the value of baird-online.com for both readers and advertisers. I am sure you will all find it very worthwhile.

While I am on the subject of baird-online.com, I must remind you of its many other features. Among them are "news alerts" which supply you with daily personalised newsletters covering the maritime subjects of your own preference. You can simply register for this online and they will start flowing to you the same day.

Of course, baird-online.com also offers very effective and economical online advertising. I suggest you check our pricing and you will soon see the value. Both banner ads and "marketplace" classified advertisements are available.

While this is an important new step in the evolution of baird-online.com it will certainly not be the last. We have many more ideas that are being worked on or will be developed. Our intention is to ensure that www.baird-online.com continues to be the most interesting, informative, useful and valuable source of maritime information available.
