Østensjø Rederi has placed an order for four low-emission walk-to-work vessels in a series from Spanish shipbuilder Astilleros Gondán.
The 88.3-metre vessels, which are to be delivered from early 2022 onwards, will serve as mother ships for wind turbine technicians as they perform commissioning and maintenance work on offshore wind turbines. Onboard cabins and common areas will be able to accommodate up to 97 technicians and 23 vessel crew while a battery hybrid propulsion system is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30 per cent.
The vessels are being designed in close coordination with Salt Ship Design.
