The second of two new 94-metre multi-role response vessels (MRRVs) slated for the Philippine Coast Guard was launched into the water at Mitsubishi Shipbuilding's Shimonoseki Shipyard on Thursday, November 18.

The vessel and its sister, which was launched in July of this year, are both modified variants of the Japan Coast Guard's Kunigami-class patrol vessels. Each will have a maximum speed in excess of 24 knots and a range of 4,000 nautical miles, making them ideal for sustained maritime patrols.

The two 94-metre MRRVs will be the largest vessels ever acquired by the Philippine Coast Guard.
