The Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation (Organisation conjointe de cooperation en matière d'armement; OCCAR) has awarded Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri a contract for the construction of a new class of submarines for the Italian Navy.

The total contract value for the first two submarines under the U212NFS program, as well as relevant logistics support, amounts to €1.35 billion (US$1.63 billion). Deliveries are scheduled for 2027 and 2029, respectively.

The U212NFS submarines will all be equipped with air-independent propulsion (AIP) and will be used in maritime border security, offshore asset protection, and anti-piracy and anti-terrorism missions.
