German energy company Deutsche ReGas has commenced construction on a new LNG import terminal at the Port of Lubmin on the country's Baltic Sea coast.

The future Deutsche Ostsee terminal will be used to support the deployment of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), which will be supplied by TotalEnergies.

The works at the future FSRU terminal will entail construction of an additional berth, installation of stronger bollards and dolphins, and maintenance dredging to ensure navigability for larger ships. Completion is scheduled for December 2022.

Once operational, the facility will be able to transfer up to 4.5 million cubic metres of natural gas feed into into the German long-distance gas network each year.
