Netherlands-based Damen Shipyards Group has concluded a licence agreement with US shipbuilder Conrad Industries wherein the latter's Louisiana-based subsidiary, Conrad Shipyard, will construct two Damen workboats for Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company (GLDD).

The workboats will be fully compliant with US Coast Guard and US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) stability requirements and will be used to support GLDD's dredging operations.

Each workboat will be capable of performing a wide range of tasks including handling submerged and floating pipelines as well as anchor handling and logistics supply. Large tank capacities onboard will ensure the vessels can also provide resupply for dredgers.

The start of construction of the first GLDD workboat is scheduled for Tuesday, July 13.
