Russia's Malakhit Marine Engineering Bureau has unveiled a design for a proposed nuclear-powered submarine capable of breaking ice to conduct operations in the Arctic shelf.

The submarine will have a length of 82 metres and a specially designed bow that can allow it to break through surface ice up to 1.2 metres thick.

The Malakhit-designed submarine will also serve as a mother ship for mini-subs.
