The Project 22220 icebreaker Arktika is ready for outfitting at St Petersburg's Baltiysky Zavod shipyard.

The work, which will include thermal and fireproof insulation, cladding, furnishing, cable tightening, laying of communication systems and painting, is scheduled to be completed by June.

Ordered by FSUE Rosatomflot, the 173.3-metre by 34-metre icebreaker will be commissioned into service by the State Corporation Rosatom.

Designed by CDB Iceberg and built to RS class, the three Project 22220 vessels operate at speeds of 22 knots and have a designated service life of 40 years.

They will be powered by two RITM-200 nuclear reactors of 175MW.

The vessels' dual-draught capability allow them to operate in the Arctic and in the mouths of the polar rivers.
