From Baird Maritime:
Britannia no longer rules the waves and Britain's Royal Navy is, in terms of vessel numbers, a tiny shadow of its former self but the British still maintain a very healthy maritime culture.
A large part of the reason for this is the ongoing support provided by books and associated television series that encourage the interest of the masses in matters maritime.
Serious maritime historians may not be impressed with the superficial approach taken in this book, and presumably, in the television series (not seen by this reviewer). Nevertheless, it must be admitted that the result is effective in promoting a wider general knowledge if Britain's maritime history. That, alone, very efficiently contributes to the strengthening of the maritime culture of the nation.
Other than that, the book is an attractively presented overview of the history of the Royal Navy through its glorious heyday.
