The Royal Netherlands Navy has taken formal delivery of three Damen ASD 2810 Hybrid tugs at the Den Helder Naval Base.

The acquisition of the tugs is part of the Royal Netherlands Navy's ongoing fleet renewal programme.

The hybrid vessels, named 'Noordzee', 'Waddenzee' and 'Zuiderzee', can sail under diesel-direct, diesel-electric or fully-electric power.

The tugs can sail in fully-electric mode for one hour at a speed of four knots, Damen has said. When doing so the vessels will have zero emissions.

The vessels have a bollard pull of 60 tonnes which will be used for ship handling operations.
