A unique barge-ferry has completed a 1,000-kilometre road trip and an 850-kilometre sail to be delivered to its new owner in Canada.

Builder Waiward Steel transported the Robert Allan Ltd-designed Aurora Yukon by road from Edmonton to Hay River and then down the Mackenzie River to Norman Wells,

The 30-metre-long Aurora Yukon will operate with an existing tug to carry vehicles and passengers across the Mackenzie River at Norman Wells.

The barge can carry up to 12 passengers and two crew on sheltered waters voyages, with a maximum cargo load of 115 tonnes and a maximum single vehicle load of 50 tonnes.

She replaces an existing barge built in 1969.

The barge was designed by Robert Allan Ltd to Transport Canada regulations and Lloyd's Register Inland Waterways Ships Rules.
