UK naval architects Ad Hoc Marine Designs has been awarded a contract for the design of two new tugs in a series.
Ad Hoc said a catamaran hull form was chosen for the design since it offers 50 per cent greater stability compared to a monohull tug of equivalent size.
Construction of the two tugs will take place at the Isle of Wight facilities of Aluminium Marine Consultants (AMC). Once completed, each vessel will have a length of nine metres, a single-point lift, and two Yanmar engines that will deliver a bollard pull of up to six tonnes.
Delivery to the customer is scheduled for the end of 2021.
