Turkey's Sanmar Shipyards and battery manufacturer Corvus Energy have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) wherein the two companies will cooperate on the development of tugs powered by hybrid or all-electric propulsion.

The MOU covers the improvement and integration of batteries and fuel cell technology. It also covers dimensioning and advice on battery room design, power system, and fuel interfaces, for which Corvus will be primarily responsible.

The tugs that will be fitted with the reduced-emission propulsion systems will be designed by Robert Allan Ltd and will have bollard pulls of between 30 and 70 tonnes.
