Med Marine has been selected to build a new salvage and harbour tug for the Kenya Ports Authority for operations at the Port of Mombasa.

The Robert Allan Ltd-designed vessel will have an LOA of 42 metres and a moulded beam of 16 metres. Med Marine claims it will be the biggest purpose-built harbour tug that will operate along Eastern Africa's Indian Ocean coast.

The tug will also have a maximum draught of 7.2 metres, a crew of 18, and a bollard pull of 120 tonnes.

Delivery is scheduled for 2021.
