Keppel, ABB team up for Singapore autonomous tug project
Published on

Keppel Offshore and Marine's (Keppel O&M) technology arm, Keppel Marine and Deepwater Technology (KMDTech), will partner with ABB to develop technology for autonomous vessels and retrofit a 32-metre harbor tug to enable autonomous vessel operations in the Port of Singapore.

During the initial phase of the project, the tug, operated by Keppel O&M's joint-venture company Keppel Smit Towage, will complete a series of navigational tasks in a designated test area in the Port of Singapore while it is being steered from an onshore control center. The second phase of the project will see the vessel perform autonomous collision avoidance tasks while under remote supervision.

The project is expected to be completed at the end of 2020.
