The governments of Japan and Tonga have entered into an agreement wherein a new tug will be donated for use by the latter country's maritime and port authorities, the Japanese Embassy in Tonga said in a recent statement.

The vessel will be operated jointly by Ports Authority Tonga and the country's Ministry of Public Enterprises.

The donation of the tug, which is valued at approximately US$10 million, is made possible by the Japanese government's Non-Project Grant Aid (NPGA) assistance program.
