Sri Lankan shipbuilder Colombo Dockyard launched a new buoy tender vessel into the water on Wednesday, July 22.

The vessel is being built in fulfillment of an order placed by Japan's Toyota Tsuho Corporation (TTC) on behalf of General Company for Ports of Iraq (GCPI). It is designed to be operated to retrieve and launch marine navigation buoys, to provide repair and maintenance to buoys, to transport marine buoys and/or spare parts, and to transport general cargo.

Once completed, it will have a length of 60 metres, a beam of 12 metres, a crane with 22-tonne lifting capacity, air-conditioned living quarters for up to 28 personnel, and two diesel engines that will deliver a speed of 12 knots.

Colombo Dockyard is also building a 50-metre catamaran pilot station vessel for the GCPI in fulfillment of the same order.
