Norwegian naval architects LMG Marin has been awarded a contract to design a new ammonia-fueled tanker for Grieg Edge, a subsidiary of the Grieg Maritime Group.

The vessel will transport and distribute green ammonia fuel from a production facility in Berlevag, Norway, to the Svalbard archipelago. The fuel will be used as a replacement for coal in local power plants.

LMG Marin expects the new vessel to be operational by 2024.
