Blue Atlantic Fabricators has been contracted to convert a liquid mud barge into a double-hull tank barge capable of providing vessel fuel bunkering services for clients in Boston Harbor.

The 130- by 34-foot (39- by 10-metre) mud barge Mop Meghan, formerly operated by the Port of New Orleans, will sail under the name Bunker Hill with Boston-based Harbor Fuels following its conversion.

The tank barge will have a 100,000-gallon (378,000-litre) cargo tank capacity, a pedestal-mounted knuckle boom crane, modified cargo piping and hydraulic piping systems, and a redesigned deck house.

Work will be carried out at Blue Atlantic's East Boston facilities with JMS Naval Architects providing engineering and design services.
