Denmark's DFDS has signed a long-term concession agreement with the Belgian stevedoring group Sea-Invest for anchoring in North Sea Port, in the port area of Ghent.

DFDS has outlined plans to upgrade its terminal at Ghent, where DFDS handles the Ghent-Gothenburg/Brevik Ro-Ro route, together with container barge connections to the deep-sea ports of Antwerp, Rotterdam and Zeebrugge.

A further 14 trains with steel, truck cabins and palletised goods are handled by the Ghent terminal each week.

Shipping Division Managing Director Sam de Wilde said DFDS would continue on the path of multimodality and expand its barging activities as a congestion-free alternative to trucking to and from nearby deep-sea ports.
