Spanish shipping firm Baleària and energy company Gas Natural Fenosa have signed an exclusive 10-year supply contract for the first permanent LNG bunkering in Spain.

Baleària President Adolfo Utor said this was the first permanent, multi-system bunkering supply contract for ship propulsion with liquefied natural gas (LNG) to be signed in Spain.

Initially in operation at the ports of Barcelona, Valencia and Algeciras, the supply will be extended to all peninsular ports operated by Baleària.

Meanwhile, the second catamaran of the eco-fast ferries that Baleària will operate in the Pityusic Islands has been launched.

Eco Lux will operate between Eivissa and Formentera.
