New IMarEST honorary fellow

An honorary fellowship will be awarded to Admiral Robert E Kramek at the 106th Annual Dinner of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) taking place on March 13.

Admiral Robert E Kramek is a maritime advisor and consultant serving on several corporate boards and advisory boards. He is the immediate past President of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. He recently served as President and Chief Operating Officer and Board Member of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).  

Prior to his election to this position by the ABS Board, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of the ABS Americas Division of the class society. Mr Kramek joined ABS in 1998, after serving as Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, from which he retired as a Four Star Admiral. He graduated with honors from the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Academy with a B.S. in engineering in 1961 and attended postgraduate schools at the University of Michigan, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Alaska.  He has received Master of Science Degrees in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management.

Admiral Kramek also attended the US Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, graduating with highest distinction.  He completed the prestigious "Capstone" Program at the National Defense University's Institute of Higher Defense Studies. He has been honored as a distinguished alumnus at the US Coast Guard Academy, the US Naval War College, and the University of Michigan. Mr Kramek is a recipient of the Reserve Officers Association Minuteman Hall of Fame award, the NAACP Meritorious Service Award, and an Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
