The floating production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) Egina is in transit to Nigeria having left Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) shipyard in Geoje, South Korea.
The voyage is estimated to take three months before Egina is prepared for topsides module integration and commissioning at the Total-operated Egina oil field in 1,750 metres of water, 130 kilometres offshore.
Scheduled delivery is expected in the second half of 2018.
With a storage capacity of 2.3 million barrels of oil, the FPSO is 330 metres long, 61 metres wide and 34 metres high.
SHI won the US$3 billion contract in 2013 for the turn-key project in which Samsung covered engineering, procurement, construction, transport and commissioning.
SHI formed a joint venture (SHI-MCI) venture with a Nigerian local company and established a production facility in Lagos, Nigeria, to meet local content requirements. The 120,000-square-metre yard has construction and painting facilities and a 500-metre-long quay.
