Vard Marine and SeaspanLNG, a company under Canada's Seaspan, have secured an approval in principle (AIP) with Bureau Veritas for the design of a 7,600-cubic-metre LNG bunkering vessel.

The vessel is designed for ship-to-ship LNG transfer as well as coastal/short sea shipping operations.

The design will have an LOA of 112.8 metres, a beam of 18.6 metres, a design draught of five metres, and a speed of 13 knots. Two azimuthing thrusters and two bow thrusters will provide improved manoeuvring and station-keeping capabilities.

The bunkering vessel will also have the option for the installation of an energy storage system as part of a hybrid propulsion arrangement.
