Dutch fishing becoming more fuel-efficient

A recent study conducted by the GIBO Accountants and Advisers Group in the Netherlands has found that the Dutch fleet of beamers is becoming more fuel-efficient.

According to Visserijnieuws, average fuel consumption has fallen by 40 percent in five years. In 2004, the average fuel consumption per kilogram of fish caught was 4.53 litres. This year, the average was only 2.79 litres.

"The figures are giving evidence of a forceful performance of the sector, all the more as efficient fishing is difficult because of the many restricting measures like quota regulations," Auke Hoefnagel of the GIBO group was quoted as saying by Visserijnieuws.
