Two more crewmembers from the missing live export ship Gulf Livestock 1 had been found by the time the Japan Coast Guard ordered the temporary suspension of the search effort due to worsening weather brought about by Typhoon Haishen.
The two sailors, both Filipino nationals, were found at separate locations in the East China Sea off Japan's Amami-Oshima Island on Friday, September 4.
One of the rescued crewmen had been pulled unconscious from a floating liferaft. Tragically, this individual died later in the day on Friday as confirmed by Japan Coast Guard officials.
Three of Gulf Livestock 1's 43-strong crew have now been accounted for. The 45-year-old Filipino chief officer was rescued within 24 hours of the vessel's reported capsizing at around 01:45 local time on Wednesday, September 2, as Typhoon Maysak swept through the East China Sea.
The search for the missing vessel, its crew, and its cargo of cattle is expected to resume on Tuesday, September 8, following Typhoon Haishen's anticipated exit from the area.
