Turkish media reports that a Turkish-owned cargo vessel suffered damage as a result of a missile attack on the Port of Kherson in Ukraine on Tuesday, January 24.

Fires ignited shortly afterwards on the bridge and in the accommodation block of the Vanuatu-flagged general cargo ship Tuzla (pictured) after it was struck by a missile of unknown origin at around 21:00 local time on Tuesday.

The same attack resulted in less severe damage on another Turkish-owned vessel, the cargo ship Ferahnaz.

Reports said the damage suffered by Ferahnaz was comparatively minor and was possibly due to shrapnel that resulted from the strike on Tuzla.

The two ships had become stranded at the port since February 2022 just as the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

Cakiroglu Shipping Company, the managers of Ferahnaz, told Turkish media that only the captain remains on board the vessel and that he was not injured.

No details have been provided on whether any crew were still on board Tuzla when the port was attacked.
