SAL to add three heavy lift vessels to fleet

German operator SAL Heavy Lift is set to introduce three additional crane vessels to its fleet in the first quarter of 2020.

Hanna, Klara, and Lisa belong to the same series of cargo vessels built during 2011 and 2012 by China's Changjiang Shipping Group. Each has an LOA of 166.15 metres, a beam of 22.9 metres, a cargo hold capacity of 23,720 cubic metres, a deadweight of 19,100 tonnes, and two 400-tonne and one 120-tonne cranes.

The vessels will service clients along the company's main trade lanes between Europe and the Far East as well as its more recently introduced Africa service.

The vessels are also capable of operating in arctic areas such as the Northeast Passage thanks to their DNV GL ice class E3 notation, which is equivalent to Finnish/Swedish 1A.
