Spanish shipbuilder Zamakona Yards has signed a construction contract with Greenland-based freight company Royal Arctic Line to build two Norwegian-designed ships.

The vessels will replace the multi-purpose general cargo vessel Pajuttaat and the charter vessel Vestlandia, which were built in 1979 and 1983 respectively.

Designed to operate in northwest Greenland and have greater capacity than the current ships, the vessels are scheduled to be delivered by 2020.
