Grounded K Line ship Makassary Highway has released approximately 7,000 litres of oil into Swedish waters, after heavy weather caused the ship to dislodge, allowing oil to leak from the vessel's tanks.

The Swedish Coast Guard has blocked the area between the mainland and Huvudskär.

Makassary Highway is currently anchored and believed to no longer be leaking.

K Line's Makassary Highway ran aground offshore Sweden on the way to Sodertalije from Cuxhaven Port in Germany on July 23.

The 2001-built Makassary Highway has a length of 139 metres, breadth of 23.2 metres, gross tonnage of 17,735 tonnes and can accommodate a crew of 18 people.
