A vessel operated by UK shipping line Condor Ferries came to the aid of a mariner who had gone adrift at sea off the Channel Islands on Tuesday, March 17.
The crew of the freight-only Ro-Ro vessel Commodore Goodwill spotted the distressed boater adrift in the water and clinging on to his overturned dinghy at around 11:45 local time on Tuesday while they were en route to Portsmouth.
The freighter then deployed a lifeboat crew to pull the boater out of the water and bring him aboard the larger vessel. He was later transferred to a Guernsey Coastguard rescue boat which brought him to shore for medical treatment.
A spokesman of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) station at Alderney said that the rescued mariner had transferred from his yacht to the smaller dinghy when the two vessels became separated due to the strong currents in the area.
