The first ship in a new series of coastal vessels ordered by German joint venture shipping company Rhenus-Arkon-Shipinvest has departed China and is now sailing for Europe.

Wilson Flex I belongs to a series of vessels that each feature open-top cargo holds without hatch covers and an end-to-end deck for the transport of large quantities of bulk goods. A total payload of 4,200 tonnes can be transported on each voyage.

The nearly 90-metre-long newbuild will be operated under a long-term service with Norwegian shipping company Wilson. It will sail will on European short-sea traffic routes ranging from the Baltic Sea to the North Sea and even the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

Following the first ship, another completed vessel will set off from China every six to eight weeks.
