Work has begun on construction of two LNG-powered logistics vessels to be chartered by the Volkswagen Group.

The steel-cutting ceremony was held at China's Xiamen Shipbuilding for the pure car truck carrier (PCTC), which was ordered by Siem Car Carriers.

Once complete in 2019, the vessels will carry Volkswagen Group vehicles from Europe to North America.

Powered by MAN engines, the 60,000GT newbuilds will measure 199.9 metres by 38 metres.
