Japanese shipowner NYK took delivery of a new pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) from Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding on Thursday, March 24.
Like earlier sister vessel Sakura Leader, Japan's first LNG-fueled PCTC, Plumeria Leader operates with LNG as its main fuel and has capacity for 7,000 vehicles. Its initial sailings will be to transport vehicles manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation.
NYK said Plumeria Leader will achieve emissions reductions of 99 per cent for SOx and 86 per cent for NOx compared to ships using conventional heavy fuel oil engines.
