Dutch operator Symphony Shipping has ordered two project cargo vessels in a series from local builder Ferus Smit.
The ice class 1A, open top notation vessels will be designed for the transport of extra-long items such as wind turbine blades while still being able to accommodate general cargo.
Each vessel will have a box-shaped hold of 100 metres in length on the tanktop and 112 metres above the movable tweendeck level. Two cargo cranes will also be installed.
The deckhouse will be placed on the foreship for better protection of deck cargo and to enable loading of oversized items over the stern.
Propulsion will be provided by a 3,300kW main engine driving a nozzled controllable-pitch propeller running in fully automatic combinator mode. The fuel system will also be suitable for bio blend fuels.
A waste heat generator will be included in the propulsion system to further reduce fuel consumption.
