Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has unveiled its plans to procure a newbuilding Panamax bulk carrier to transport woody biomass for energy as its main cargo.

The company said the procurement comes in the wake of growing Japanese demand for carbon-neutral biomass fuels, especially by the country's power generation sector.

Construction of the vessel will take place at the facilities of Oshima Shipbuilding. MOL said it expects to take delivery in 2023.
