Krasnoye Sormovo launches Russia’s first Project RSD59 dry cargo carrier

The lead Project RSD59 dry cargo carrier Pola Makaria has been launched at Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard in Nizhny Novgorod.

She is the first in a series of five dry cargo carriers under a trilateral contract signed in December 2016 with State Transport Leasing Company and Pola Rise shipping company.

Designed by Marine Engineering Bureau and Volga-Caspian Design Bureau, the five Project RSD59 vessels are all scheduled to be delivered during 2018.

The 140.8-metre by 16.9-metre vessels each have a total cargo capacity of 11,292 cubic metres in two holds.

The 7,535DWT design is classed KM Ice2 and has a 12-day endurance.
