Klaveness Combination Carriers (KCC) has successfully completed testing of 30 per cent biofuel aboard one of its vessels on a recent voyage across the Atlantic.

The trial utilised the Panamax combination carrier Baru, which sailed from the Netherlands to Brazil.

The trial was carried out as part of KCC's compliance to the impending implementation of the EU Commission's FuelEU Maritime legislation. Once implemented, the new legislation would eventually require shipowners worldwide to increase the share of renewable/low-carbon fuel in the mix of the fuels they use.

KCC CEO Engebret Dahm said his company will continue exploring other possible biofuels options in future.
