The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company (ISSC) will receive UK government funding totalling £48.4 million (US$65 million) to support the construction of two new vessels together with some infrastructure improvements.

In addition, the project will benefit from a further £5.4 million (US$7.2 million) of local funding to be provided by the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, the Duchy of Cornwall, and Tresco Estate.

ISSC's new ferries will be designed by UK naval architects BMT. These will include a 72-metre hybrid-powered ferry with capacity for 600 passengers (pictured) and a 45-metre freight-only vessel with space for both dry cargo and frozen goods.
