The Hellenic Coast Guard intercepted and seized on December 5 a Syrian-flagged vessel carrying drugs worth approximately US$113 million.

About six tonnes of cannabis and three million amphetamine pills were discovered on board the freighter Noka, which was sailing towards Libya when it was seized.

The drugs were found to have been deliberately hidden among the vessel's other cargo, which included coffee, spices, and wood shavings.

The vessel and its contents have been impounded by Greek authorities while the crew have been arrested and appeared before a public prosecutor on Saturday, December 15.
